Screen off? Find the session notice to stop redial attempts

To stop attempts yourself, use the session control

Turning off the screen is not AutoRedial’s stop control. An active session has a persistent notification from which you can stop it, including while the screen is off. If you want attempts to end, check the session state and use its stop control; do not infer that state from a dark display.

This does not promise that Android will keep every session running through all restrictions or interruptions. If the notice or expected state is missing, check the app before assuming it is still retrying or has stopped.

Plan the exit before starting

Before an everyday session, review the number, SIM where applicable, answer-wait time, interval and maximum attempts. Also choose which outcomes trigger retries: busy, unanswered or disconnected. Knowing the configured limit helps avoid reading the end of attempts as a successful connection.

Locate the session’s stop control in your installation before putting the phone aside. You do not need to call a real number to read the controls or prepare that decision. Do not use emergency numbers for a test; they are excluded from automatic redial.

Two outcomes behind the same dark screen

In this fictional example, you start a session and then turn off the screen:

  • The session is still attempting calls and you decide to stop. Use the persistent notice to stop the session. Check its state afterwards and consult the dedicated session history when you need to reconstruct what happened.
  • Android has already reported a connection. Automatic retries end and the conversation continues normally. If you now want to end the call, use the call controls: stopping a retry cycle does not hang up an active conversation.

An announcement can also be marked connected by Android Telecom. AutoRedial does not analyze the audio to decide whether a person answered. The absence of further attempts therefore does not establish that you spoke to someone.

When the state differs, return to the evidence

Read the session state and its history before immediately starting another one. Reaching the configured maximum, a manual stop or being unable to continue can also end retries. A dark screen, missing notice or counter should not become an explanation you have not checked.

AutoRedial is a phone app for Android 10 or later and must be the default phone app. Its retry cycle runs locally; that does not make every external contact-card action an offline feature. Consult the official product facts and current Google Play availability.
