Busy is not unanswered: choose when you want to retry

Decide which situation deserves another attempt

A busy call and an unanswered call describe different results. Before starting AutoRedial, review which conditions will allow another attempt: the product documents retry options after busy, no answer or disconnection, alongside session timing and maximum attempts.

Choosing conditions does not guarantee an answer. Use the appropriate number and channel for an ordinary call you need to make; this guide proposes no campaigns or calls to strangers.

Two plans for one pending call

Fictional case: you want to ask about an object left at a workshop and have checked its hours and official number. We do not know whether its staff are available.

You might choose “if busy, allow another attempt; if unanswered, stop and review opening hours”. Another possible choice is allowing retries in both cases with a limit you choose. Neither proves why nobody answers or how long it will take.

Write your criterion before configuring the session:

ResultDecision in the first fictional plan
BusyAllow a retry within chosen limits
No answerLeave that retry disabled; review whether calling now is appropriate
Connected callHandle the conversation; do not expect redial to continue

The table is a preference for this example, not AutoRedial’s defaults or a recommended calling frequency.

Check conditions, timing and stopping

  1. Review the number and, on compatible dual-SIM devices, the line you will use.
  2. Check the retry conditions you want enabled. Decide the disconnection option separately; do not confuse it with an instruction to end a conversation.
  3. Review answer wait, interval between calls and maximum attempts. These are separate controls; an attempt limit does not promise an exact duration.
  4. During the session, consult its state and current attempt. You can stop it, including from its persistent notification, without waiting for the maximum.

Automatic retries stop when the call connects, you stop the session, the configured maximum is reached or the session cannot continue. A connected conversation continues normally. The app uses Android Telecom state; it does not listen to audio to tell whether a person or an announcement answered.

Before installing

AutoRedial is a paid Android 10-or-later app and must be the default phone application. Its retry cycle runs locally, but depends on the phone call being possible. It does not guarantee a connection and excludes emergency numbers from redial behaviour.

Consult the setup and limits and official Google Play listing for current availability and terms.
